Exciting news for residents of Los Angeles – Waymo’s driverless taxis are now available for booking! However, there are some restrictions to keep in mind. Unfortunately, the service does not offer rides to airports or trips that involve highway travel.
Passengers can enjoy a ride within a 79-square-mile area of Los Angeles County, covering popular neighborhoods like Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Mar Vista, and Chinatown. Notably absent from the service area is Los Angeles International Airport.
Initially requiring customers to join a waiting list with over 300,000 people, Waymo has now made it easier than ever to hail a ride through their app. With an impressive track record of over 20 million fully autonomous miles driven without serious accidents, Waymo’s robotaxis are paving the way for safe self-driving transportation.
Having first launched in Phoenix in 2020 and steadily expanding its services since then, Waymo boasts more than 150,000 weekly trips taken by passengers in its robotaxis. Backed by investments from Alphabet and other major firms like Andreessen Horowitz and T. Rowe Price,
Waymo remains at the forefront of the autonomous vehicle market. While competitors like Amazon’s Zoox and Tesla’s Cybercab are gearing up for launches in 2025,
Cruise by General Motors is also making strides towards entering the market. The potential impact of driverless technology extends beyond just transportation – industries such as auto manufacturing,
auto insurance,
and gas stations are all expected to be influenced by this innovative technology.
With plans to introduce robotaxis in Texas,Austin,Atlanta, next year through a partnership with Uber,
Waymopositions itself as a key player in the self-driving vehicle market.
In past collaborations with Lyft and legal battles with Uber over stolen technology claims,
Waymohas proven its commitment to innovation and leadership
in this rapidly evolving industry.
