Max Verstappen showcased his dominance by clinching victory in the first Chinese Grand Prix in five years, further solidifying his position as the leader in the world championship race. Just a day after a spectacular sprint win, the three-time world champion maintained control throughout the race on Sunday, crossing the finish line a remarkable 13.7 seconds ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris, with his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez securing third place, six seconds behind.
Verstappen’s performance was nothing short of exceptional, marking his fourth Grand Prix win of the season and the 58th of his career. With this triumph, he widened the gap over Perez in the drivers’ championship to 25 points, while Red Bull surged 44 points ahead of Ferrari in the constructors’ standings.
Despite a rare brake failure and retirement in Melbourne, Verstappen’s quest for a clean sweep of all five rounds in 2024 remains strong as he aims for a fourth consecutive world title.
Reflecting on his victory, Verstappen expressed, “It felt amazing. The whole weekend we were incredibly quick. Just enjoyable to drive on every compound.” This win also marked his first victory in China, adding to the significance of the achievement.
Following closely behind were the Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, claiming the fourth and fifth positions respectively.
China’s very own Formula One driver, Zhou Guanyu, captivated the audience during his home grand prix debut. Despite finishing 14th in the race, Zhou was granted the honor of parking his car on the grid in front of the grandstands. Overwhelmed with emotion, he exited the cockpit to a standing ovation from the enthusiastic crowd.
