Verizon Bounces Back: Services Restored Following Massive Outage

Verizon has successfully resolved a ⁢technical issue that⁢ disrupted its network and impacted numerous customers across the United States. The outage began at 9:30 AM ET and peaked at 11:19 ⁢AM with over 105,000 complaints logged ‍during that time.

Reports‍ indicate that users in Chicago and⁤ Seattle were severely ⁢affected by the outage, with some ⁣iPhone users experiencing an ‍”SOS” mode on⁢ their devices. The Federal⁢ Communications Commission (FCC) was actively monitoring the situation‍ to determine the root cause of the disruption.

DownDetector reported that by ⁣5:02 PM, ‌the total number of complaints had decreased⁤ to 28,842 from its peak earlier in the‍ day. Despite this decrease, ‌many users‌ continued to face ‍service outages throughout the day.

With over 114.2 million subscribers in the‍ U.S.,‍ Verizon is among several major carriers experiencing disruptions this year alongside ⁤AT&T and Microsoft. Apple clarified that even if an iPhone displays “SOS” mode without cellular network ‌connectivity, emergency ⁤calls can ‍still be made through‍ other carriers.

In response to these issues, Verizon announced on Twitter ⁢that ‌their services had returned ⁣to normal‍ levels following extensive restoration⁤ efforts by their engineers.⁤ They advised any remaining affected customers to restart their devices for optimal service recovery.

Meanwhile,⁣ AT&T users reported a total of 448 outage complaints as of⁤ late afternoon but AT&T denied any nationwide service⁢ disruptions according to ⁢Reuters‌ reports. This incident adds to a ⁢series of cell service interruptions experienced throughout this year.

Past⁣ incidents include a‌ significant⁣ AT&T outage lasting for twelve hours affecting over 70,000 customers back in February where ‌millions‌ of⁣ voice calls were blocked including emergency assistance attempts reaching up to thousands. The FCC is⁤ currently investigating this massive outage along‌ with similar disruptions experienced by AT&T users later in June and August as well as Microsoft facing global ‍system issues ⁤due to⁢ cybersecurity update glitches from ⁢CrowdStrike back in July.
