CD Projekt Red developers discussed the challenging journey of adding a specific and seemingly insignificant feature to Cyberpunk 2077.
Leshak Krupinsky, the head of online services, shared a detailed account on X/Twitter about the process of incorporating a unique sound effect for the main character’s menu interactions. This sound, previously present during in-game activities, was only introduced in the latest 2.11 update for menu interactions.
“In this version, a small yet significant addition emerged, which I poured my heart into,” Krupinsky expressed, citing inspiration from the Niezatapialni podcast, where the host repeatedly emphasized the need for this detail.
While acknowledging the overlooked absence of this sound, I took it upon myself to rectify the situation. It extended beyond my role, but I persisted. Engaging with producers and release managers, I inquired about the possibility of introducing new features post the 2.0 release. To my surprise, they did not outright dismiss the idea, leaving a window of opportunity. Assuming a producer’s role, I collaborated with sound designers and the UI team. Finally, after installing the patch this week, the impact of my efforts materialized. Now, when consuming items in the inventory menu, players will hear a satisfying “crunch-crunch.” I can now depart this world in peace.
Update 2.11 also addressed various bugs and balance issues in the open-world RPG. Fixes included rectifying close combat finishers, correcting turning movements into squats, and updating items accurately. Additionally, CD Projekt Red adjusted the frequency of car chases and resolved numerous other issues, detailed in the link provided.
