The recent reveal of a new platformer reminiscent of “Prince of Persia” has sparked curiosity among fans. With a unique visual style, gameplay akin to Dead Cells, and a release date coinciding with The Lost Crown, Rogue Prince of Persia seems to be shrouded in mystery. The developers have shed some light on the project.
This upcoming game is the brainchild of Evil Empire studio. Known for their work on Dead Cells DLC and roguelikes, the team’s background draws parallels to their new venture. However, they assure fans that Rogue Prince of Persia will be a departure from their previous endeavors.
“Let’s make it clear – this is not a mere copy of Dead Cells. While we’ve gleaned insights from our past projects, we’re crafting a unique experience within the Prince of Persia universe. Expect the signature acrobatics, intense combat, and a gripping narrative where the prince seeks redemption for his grave error to save his kingdom.”
Matt emphasized that they acknowledge the fans’ confusion, having only contributed a minor chapter to the series. He promises more detailed explanations in future videos to clear up any uncertainties.
The concept for a rogue-lite action game featuring the Prince originated at a Game Developers Conference. Subsequently, Evil Empire pitched their vision to Ubisoft, who greenlit the project.
The developers believe that launching the game in early access will benefit its development, citing successful examples like Dead Cells, Hades, Subnautica, Slay the Spire, and Baldur’s Gate III.
Players can expect wall-running action in Rogue Prince of Persia on May 14, exclusively on PC via Steam. The game’s art style draws inspiration from Franco-Belgian comics.
