Unveiling the Epic Journey: How a Team of 60 Crafted Astro Bot in 3 Years

During the latest episode⁣ of the GI Microcast podcast, GamesIndustry.biz editor⁢ Christopher Dring shared his‌ thoughts on recent gaming ⁣presentations. While he found State ‍of Play to be lacking, he did highlight ⁤one standout project from it – Astro Bot.

Dring not ‍only commended Team ⁣Asobi’s work on Astro ⁢Bot ⁢but also revealed that the game ⁢had a production timeline of ‌about 3 years with a team of 60 individuals dedicated to its creation. In comparison, the VR version, Astro Bot Rescue ⁢Mission, involved 26 people⁤ over 18 months.

Confident in Astro Bot’s ⁣potential success,⁢ Dring attributed ‍this to the inclusion of Astro’s Playroom demo with every PlayStation 5. He⁣ expressed his belief that the game will outperform titles like Ratchet & Clank or Sackboy. “If you’ve experienced⁢ it, ⁤you‌ understand its brilliance. I anticipate it will surpass expectations,” Dring remarked.

Dring’s optimism is backed by data from⁣ IGN Playlist,⁤ which ranked Astro Bot as the most wishlisted ⁣game from all those showcased⁤ during the summer events of 2024. Following⁤ closely behind were DOOM:‍ The Dark Ages and Gears of War: E-Day, securing second ‌and third place respectively.

Scheduled for release on ⁢September 6th exclusively for PlayStation 5,‌ Astro Bot is already available for pre-order at $60 or 1,749 liras for the standard edition. Team Asobi’s leader, Nicolas Doucet, ‌emphasized the game’s⁢ continued focus on the unique capabilities of the DualSense controller, albeit with a ⁤more restrained use of features like the touchpad to enhance gameplay experience.
