Unveiling the Controversy: Artist Accuses Nerf of Copying Their Design for Destiny 2 Hand Cannon

A talented ‌artist known as @tofu_rabbit on X‌ recently revealed that the design of Nerf’s⁢ Ace of Spades handgun from Bungie’s Destiny games was inspired by a commissioned artwork they created‍ nearly ten years ago.

Nerf ‌and Bungie introduced their latest collaboration, a limited edition foam⁤ dart gun based‍ on Cayde-6’s iconic ‍“Ace ⁣of Spades” blaster from ⁢Destiny⁢ 2, ‍which is now ⁢available for purchase on Bungie’s online store. The next day, @tofu_rabbit‌ shared images comparing Nerf’s new foam dart launcher to a⁤ piece of art they crafted in 2015 ⁤and shared on their DeviantArt page featuring the same gun from the game.

The artist identified ⁢11 ⁣specific elements or designs on the Nerf‌ gun that closely resemble their original creation. These include details such as‌ an upside-down‍ spade ⁢on the handle, matching cracks in⁤ a paint strip on the bullet⁤ chamber, and a paisley pattern ⁤engraved just in front of the trigger. They argue that the design⁣ of the ‍Nerf gun was clearly influenced by their⁤ own work.
