For social media influencers fortunate enough to have Elon Musk as a follower, it might be wise to hold onto their Tesla vehicles. Recent events suggest that Musk may not take kindly to those who part ways with his creations.
Musk made headlines by unfollowing a prominent YouTube influencer who sold his Tesla Cybertruck and expressed a preference for Rivian, another American electric vehicle manufacturer.
In April 2024, Marques Brownlee, also known as MKBHD, acquired Musk’s Tesla Cybertruck Foundation Series at a cost exceeding $140,000. Despite investing in modifications post-purchase, Brownlee decided to sell the vehicle after less than 5,000 miles of use – resulting in a significant financial loss.
Brownlee has been vocal about his admiration for Rivian vehicles and publicly endorsed the Rivian R1T over Tesla’s offerings. He emphasized personal driving preferences over features like Full Self-Driving software.
During an online interaction on X platform, Brownlee boldly stated his preference for Rivian over Tesla.
Following this declaration and subsequent discussions about vehicle safety and autonomy features online, many observed that Musk had unfollowed the influencer – sparking controversy among Tesla enthusiasts.
The incident involving an exploding Cybertruck outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on New Year’s Day further fueled discussions around electric vehicles’ safety and performance capabilities. The explosion resulted in casualties and injuries due to incendiary materials found within the vehicle.
