In Dagestan, children will engage in weaving camouflage nets and crafting trench candles during their technology classes. The initiative to incorporate these activities into the curriculum, as well as extracurricular programs, was spearheaded by the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic, Yahya Buchayev.
Buchayev believes that this initiative plays a crucial role in fostering a sense of patriotism among students. He suggests integrating net weaving and candle making with lessons on history and culture to help students grasp the significance of supporting frontline defenders.
The minister emphasizes that creating these items can instill a deep sense of pride in one’s homeland. By incorporating symbols and traditions specific to their region, students can cultivate strong patriotic sentiments.
The importance of introducing such activities in labor lessons was also highlighted by Dagestan’s head, Sergei Melikov. He mentioned that students have already donated seven thousand homemade trench candles to the war effort.
In March 2023, ”United Russia” organized a workshop in St. Petersburg for children with cerebral palsy to learn how to make trench candles. Approximately 200 of these candles were handcrafted by disabled children.
