No need to worry, there’s no major issue or publishers being greedy here. It seems that unlocking the content of Shadow of the Erdtree in Elden Ring is dependent on meeting specific conditions within the base game. Surprisingly, most game owners are not prepared for the upcoming DLC release, as indicated by achievement statistics across different platforms.
A keen-eyed streamer first noticed this, and Bandai Namco later confirmed it. To access the Shadow of the Erdtree content, players simply need to defeat two bosses. The first is Radan Beach Stars, a familiar giant from trailers and the main storyline. The second boss, Mog, Blood Lord, presents a more intriguing challenge.
Beautiful Mog.
Mog is an optional boss, not essential for completing the main story. He was designed as “endgame content,” requiring players to complete quests or gather halves of the Secret Medallion of the Sacred Tree to face him.
So where did the data about half of the players missing out come from? An achievement for defeating Mog, titled “Owner of Mog’s Shard,” is awarded in Steam, but only 38.7% of players have achieved it. This means that 62% of PC players have yet to access Shadow of the Erdtree.
Console players fare slightly better, with 46% on Xbox and 45.3% on PlayStation at risk of missing out on the DLC content on release day. There’s a little over a week left for gamers to catch up before the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion launches on June 21.
