Nightdive Studios, known for their expertise in retro gaming, has exciting news for fans of survival horror games. They are currently working on a remastered version of the classic 2002 game, The Thing. The remaster, titled The Thing: Remastered, will feature meticulously crafted character models, textures, and animations by Nightdive.
Not stopping there, the studio promises to incorporate advanced 3D rendering techniques to enhance lighting and atmospheric effects in the game. Players can expect upgrades like anti-aliasing, pixel lighting, support for 4K resolution, and a blazing fast frame rate of up to 144 frames per second.
The highly anticipated remaster is set to launch on various platforms including PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, PS4, Xbox, and PC via Steam later this year.
The original The Thing game, released over two decades ago on PS2, Xbox, and PC, continues the story from John Carpenter’s iconic 1982 film. Players step into the shoes of Captain Blake, a US Army special forces captain sent to Antarctica to investigate the aftermath of the film’s events.
As Blake navigates the frozen landscape, he encounters survivors who join forces with him to combat a shape-shifting alien creature that has infiltrated their base. The game mirrors the film’s suspense as players must determine who among the team is trustworthy and who is the deadly imposter.
Adding to the tension, the game introduces a fear/trust system where Blake’s actions can impact his comrades’ perception of him. Suspicion runs high, and any misstep could lead to a deadly confrontation.
In addition to The Thing remaster, Nightdive Studios has also confirmed their work on reviving the comedy horror FPS game Killing Time, originally released in the mid-90s.
