During Xbox’s Developer Direct 2024 showcase, MachineGames unveiled the first glimpse of its new game, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. This exclusive title for Xbox Series S/X and PC was initially announced in January 2021, but it wasn’t until the showcase that players got to see the gameplay and learn more about the story and its place in the Indiana Jones timeline.

The game will offer a first-person experience with some third-person elements, allowing players to step into the shoes of Indiana Jones.
According to the Xbox Developer Direct presentation, the story of MachineGames’ title is set between the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Specifically, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is set in 1937, one year after the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1936, and a year before the events of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1938.
Similar to the films, the game will also explore the rise of the Nazi party and other fascist movements in the years leading up to World War 2. The trailer indicates that Indy will travel to Italy, including Rome and the Vatican, suggesting potential clashes with forces led by the country’s dictator, Benito Mussolini.
Given the game’s placement in the timeline, it’s unlikely that players will interact with Indiana Jones’ father, Henry Jones, Sr., as the two were estranged until the events of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. However, the trailer does hint at the appearance of Marcus Brody, Indy’s surrogate father-like figure, in keeping with his role in the previous films.
