UK users can now view their bank account balances on Apple Wallet


According to 9to5Mac,⁢ Apple has quietly‍ introduced a new iPhone Wallet feature in ⁢beta for ⁣UK users. This feature ⁤allows‌ users to view their current account balance, recent deposits, and⁤ payments. It is powered by‌ the UK’s Open ⁢Banking API and is a result of ​Apple’s acquisition of ⁢Credit Kudos, a company that utilizes Open Banking to provide⁤ users with⁢ a snapshot of their financial⁤ health and creditworthiness. 

The iOS 17.1 developer beta includes this new feature, which also displays users’ balances after making purchases with​ Apple Pay. To use it,⁤ users​ must first authorize it ⁤through the​ Wallet app ⁤and then authenticate‍ using their bank’s app or website. All banking data will ​be stored exclusively on users’ devices and not on Apple’s servers. The beta launch supports banks such as Barclays, HSBC,⁢ Lloyds, ⁤RBS, Monzo, and Starling.

The addition of the Wallet feature is a rare occurrence for Apple, as⁤ it is being introduced in a territory outside of the US. Additionally, Apple’s Apple Card is not yet ​available in⁣ the UK, making ‍it a relatively⁣ minor player in the market…
