According to 9to5Mac, Apple has quietly introduced a new iPhone Wallet feature in beta for UK users. This feature allows users to view their current account balance, recent deposits, and payments. It is powered by the UK’s Open Banking API and is a result of Apple’s acquisition of Credit Kudos, a company that utilizes Open Banking to provide users with a snapshot of their financial health and creditworthiness.
The iOS 17.1 developer beta includes this new feature, which also displays users’ balances after making purchases with Apple Pay. To use it, users must first authorize it through the Wallet app and then authenticate using their bank’s app or website. All banking data will be stored exclusively on users’ devices and not on Apple’s servers. The beta launch supports banks such as Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, RBS, Monzo, and Starling.
