Uganda made history with their first-ever victory at the T20 World Cup, securing a thrilling 3-wicket win against Papua New Guinea in their debut tournament.
After bowling out PNG for 77 runs, Uganda faced a tough challenge at 26-5 but managed to chase down the target in 18.2 overs, marking a significant moment at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
The team joyously celebrated their win by dancing on the field’s edge and showing gratitude to their fans who had traveled from Africa to the Caribbean to support them.

“It’s been three or four years of very hard work,” Masaba said.
“Getting to the World Cup was special, but this is more [special].”
Riazat Ali Shah played a crucial role in Uganda’s victory, scoring 33 runs and forming a vital partnership with Juma Miyagi to guide the team to success.
Despite a tense finish, with Riazat’s dismissal just three runs short of victory, Uganda’s determination and teamwork shone through in their historic win.
“Every run they scored was very important for us,” Masaba acknowledged, highlighting the team’s resilience and the unwavering support they received.
