Diablo 4 has been released, and it’s already being received better than its predecessor, Diablo 3, was. It seems that Blizzard listened to the feedback it was given by players, and leaned heavier towards Diablo 2 as an influence. As a result, D4 is better than D3 in multiple ways, even when keeping features from its predecessor.
After the fan favorite Diablo 2, D3 had a lot to live up to, but it was ultimately unable to garner the same amount of love from players. D4 has a darker atmosphere and feels more like the game players hoped to find with D3. To break down the improvements and provide more information about them, below are 10 ways Diablo 4 is better than D3.
Partially due to the adjustments to classes, combat in Diablo 4 is better than in D3. Blizzard has added an evade mechanic which helps classes that had poor mobility in Diablo 3, and the cooldown is lower than spells like Teleport. Having to manage health potions also adds a new dynamic to combat, making it overall more interesting, and perhaps more stressful at times.
The graphics used in Diablo 4 give the game a darker, bleak feeling. This isn’t to say that the graphics of Diablo 3 were bad, but reusing that style wouldn’t have fit the tones of D4 as well. Having the graphics add to the atmosphere can help draw players into the game, and Diablo 4 accomplishes this well.
The maps feel more open in Diablo 4 compared to D3. They feature multiple waypoints and towns instead of being sectioned off as much as the maps in D3 were. Similar to D3, landmarks in D4 are randomized, but there are plenty of events happening around the large map that can have players exploring it for hours. Overall, the map designs in D4 have the feeling of being expanded versions of the design from D2, and the multiple towns can be useful when traveling from point to point for quests since players also have a chance to talk to vendors before heading to the next section, and doing so won’t make them go out of their way.
