Before Michael Keaton returned as Bruce Wayne and Batman in “The Flash” this year, a couple of years ago Spider-Man fans were amazed by a web of nostalgia with the unexpected appearance of Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker in the film “Spider-Man: No Way Home”. Maguire’s return to the MCU “didn’t happen without nerves,” but he “was immediately ready” to combine it with two other incarnations of Peter Parker. The Direct reports on the release of the book “Spider-Man: No Way Home - The Art of the Movie,” which features concept art of returning supervillains in alternative costumes, including the Green Goblin in Iron Man armor. In the book, Maguire talks about his experience returning to the role: “When they first called… I thought, ‘Finally!’ Not without nerves! But to perform with talented, creative people and play together, that’s just yes. There was such openness in coming together, hugging each other, and supporting each other, which was really beautiful.”
He also describes what it was like to work with Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland. “Working with Andrew [Garfield] and Tom [Holland] was so dear to me, it truly was special – a very rich experience for me in every way. It kind of reignited my interest in performances. It was like a true brotherhood, something we all aspired to, both for ourselves and for the characters. But then for that dynamic to play out – the feeling of true connection and love for these guys, the fun and laughter – all of that energized and inspired me.”
And finally, what it was like to reunite with his villainous colleagues. “It was great to work with Alfred [Molina] and Willem [Dafoe] again. I just adore these guys and respect them as the great talents they are, as well as wonderful people. It was a blast - it felt like a reunion.”
