Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced that the social network Threads will now feature live sports scores, beginning with NBA basketball. The plan is to expand to include more leagues in the near future.
Here’s how it will work: during a game, users can search for the teams and see the most current score. Once the game is over, a search will display the final score. Users can also look up the start time of a game by searching in advance. This feature is reminiscent of X, which began displaying live sports scores in 2017 when it was known as Twitter.
Each score will be accompanied by the logos of the two teams. Clicking on these logos will redirect users to a conversation about that team. Threads, along with Instagram, has recently decided to stop recommending political content, so focusing on sports is a great way to capture the “real time” atmosphere of a trendy social network.
