Thailand’s parliament once ‍again voted ‌against ​Pita ⁤Limjaroenrat ‌becoming⁤ prime​ minister.⁤ Additionally,‍ a ​court‍ ruling​ suspended ⁢the ⁢opposition⁣ leader ‍from ⁢the legislature,‍ leaving Mr Pita with⁣ no chance ‍of ‌securing the position. Despite his pro-democracy Move⁣ Forward⁢ party ⁤winning‌ the ⁤most⁣ seats in the ⁢May‌ general election,‌ Mr Pita has ⁤been blocked by⁤ the upper house, which is ⁤dominated ‍by ⁢parties‍ aligned⁣ with⁣ Thailand’s ⁤conservative military elite. The⁣ Constitutional Court‌ is⁣ even⁤ considering a​ complaint against ​Move ⁤Forward ​for ⁤its⁢ intention to reform the‌ country’s ​oppressive lèse-majesté laws.

A ⁢senior leader in Malaysia’s ​opposition ⁣alliance⁣ of parties, Perikatan​ Nasional, ​has been charged⁢ with sedition. ​Muhammad‍ Sanusi​ Md Nor, ⁤the chief‍ co-ordinator of​ PN’s campaign ​for the upcoming​ state‌ elections, ​has⁤ been indicted under ​colonial-era‍ laws for ‌questioning‍ decisions made by ⁤the ⁤king.

In ⁢India, 26 ‌opposition parties ⁣have⁢ formed​ an⁢ alliance to coordinate ⁢their political ‍strategy ⁣against ‍the⁣ ruling ‍Bharatiya ⁤Janata Party​ in ​next year’s​ general election. The Indian National ​Developmental⁤ Inclusive ​Alliance‍ (INDIA)​ includes⁤ the Congress⁤ party, whose ‍leader, ‌Rahul⁢ Gandhi, has​ been convicted⁢ of defamation⁤ and barred​ from ⁣Parliament.
