Why Zuckerberg is up and Musk is down
The rivalry between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk has been ongoing for years, with Musk typically coming out on top in terms of coolness. Zuckerberg, the co-founder of Facebook and head of Meta, has often been dismissed as a geeky dilettante in comparison to Musk, who has received praise for his work with Tesla and SpaceX. Zuckerberg’s motto “move fast and break things” has been both beneficial and detrimental to Facebook, while Musk is known for his rule-breaking and bad-boy image.
Last year, Musk proposed a cage match with Zuckerberg, highlighting the competitive nature of their relationship. However, despite Musk’s initial advantage, recent events have seen a shift in their fortunes. Tesla’s market value has fallen, while Meta’s has soared. Meta’s recent earnings report showed a significant increase in sales and margins, leading to a surge in market value.
While short-term financial performance is not the only measure of success, the contrast in the way both men run their businesses and treat their shareholders is becoming increasingly apparent.
