While cricket may not be a mainstream sport in the U.S., a group of influential CEOs and investors are determined to change that narrative.
The Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup, being co-hosted by the U.S. for the first time, has attracted nearly a billion dollars in investments from these visionaries.
Notable figures such as Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen are backing the new U.S. professional league, Major League Cricket. Other big names in the cricket investment scene include Iconic Ventures, Madrona Venture Group, and Google executives.
“The potential for cricket to become a mainstream sport in the U.S. is what excites me,” said Soma Somasegar, a venture capitalist and managing director at Madrona.
Somasegar and Nadella are key stakeholders in Seattle’s cricket team, the Orcas, and are also involved in the league as a whole.
“Satya [Nadella] and I have been discussing the idea of introducing cricket to America for quite some time,” Somasegar shared with CNBC.
Nadella’s passion for the sport is evident…
