Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has accepted an invitation to meet with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to discuss Sweden’s NATO membership. Kristersson expressed his willingness to engage in a more intensive dialogue between the two countries, emphasizing the importance of mutual understanding and trust.
In a letter published by Swedish public television, Kristersson highlighted the significance of Hungary’s ratification of Sweden’s NATO membership, stating that it would strengthen their bilateral relationship. He also mentioned the opportunity to further discuss the matter at a meeting of the European Council in Brussels.
The recent approval of Sweden’s NATO membership by Turkey’s parliament has brought Sweden “one step closer” to joining the alliance, as stated by Kristersson after the vote in Ankara. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is expected to finalize the process by adding his signature in the coming days.
