The Sumo Group has made a significant announcement – a reduction of up to 15% of its workforce is imminent.
According to Sumo, these layoffs are a necessary response to the ongoing challenges in the game development industry:
Despite overcoming numerous obstacles in the gaming sector, Sumo acknowledges that challenges persist. To secure the future of our business, we must adapt our operations to confront the upcoming hurdles.
As a consequence, we have decided to cut costs across various areas of our business, leading to a reduction in our workforce. While we are exploring ways to minimize the impact on our employees, unfortunately, this transformation will affect up to 15% of our staff in Canada, the United Kingdom, Poland, the Czech Republic, and India.
It is important to mention that the Sumo Group encompasses Sumo Digital, known for games like “Sackboy: A Big Adventure” and “Team Sonic Racing”. Another arm of the company is the publisher Secret Mode, set to release the horror game “Still Wakes the Deep” by The Chinese Room on June 18th.
