Valve is once again stepping up to support gamers. In September, Steam will roll out new changes to enhance user experience and help players make informed decisions when purchasing games. These updates primarily benefit developers, but ultimately cater to the needs of gamers.
The primary goal of store pages is to provide developers with a platform to showcase their games effectively, enabling players to make well-informed choices. However, a recent trend has shown that some developers clutter their pages with distracting information and links, diverting attention from the game itself.
Steam aims to ensure that players can easily access relevant information about games. To achieve this, new guidelines will be implemented starting in September.
Developers will now be required to create concise descriptions directly related to their games, focusing on key content. The updated descriptions will consist of four sections: game information, brief overview, special announcements, and accolades.
No external links allowed
- Developers will no longer be able to include links to external websites, including social media platforms, on their store pages. Dedicated fields are available in
the store page editor for adding links to social media or personal websites.
Avoid mimicking Steam interface elements
- Any images or animations
resembling Steam interface elements, such as wishlist buttons, game thumbnails, or pricing details, are strictly prohibited on store pages.
No promotion of other
- Descriptions on store pages cannot contain images, links, or widgets leading to other games on Steam. Developers can explore options like creating bundles, game series pages, or developer pages for related products.
All promotional links and graphics for external websites and social profiles will be removed from descriptions. Valve emphasizes that verbal descriptions should focus solely on the game itself, without promoting other products.
