Polish military authorities have reported that a Russian missile briefly entered the country’s airspace before departing, causing concern as Russia carried out attacks in multiple Ukrainian cities, resulting in the deaths of at least 30 people.
Poland, a member of the NATO military alliance, stated that the object entered from Ukraine’s direction on Friday morning, traveling approximately 40 kilometers (24 miles) before leaving after three minutes.
Poland’s defense chief, General Wieslaw Kukula, stated, “Everything indicates that a Russian missile intruded in Poland’s airspace. It was monitored by us on radars and left the airspace. We have confirmation of this on radars and from [NATO] allies.”
This incident occurs during a period of heightened tensions between Russia and European nations near Ukraine, which Russia invaded in February 2022.
Polish officials are currently working to further verify their findings and eliminate the possibility of a technical malfunction. Russia’s charge d’affaires in Poland, summoned by the Polish government, stated that Poland has not provided any evidence of a border violation, according to the Russian news agency RIA.
