A Russian citizen, Anatoly Shchetinin, was abducted by Russian military personnel in Gyumri while seeking refuge in Armenia to avoid military service. The Vanadzor branch of the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly revealed this alarming incident.
Reports indicate that Shchetinin is being unlawfully detained at the 102nd Russian military base in Gyumri and is scheduled to be transported back to Russia via military aircraft.
In a similar case, Dmitry Setrakov, a Russian serviceman, was forcibly taken from Armenia to Russia after fleeing from military duty and seeking sanctuary. Despite his efforts to evade capture by traveling to Armenia through the “Go to the Forest” project, Setrakov was apprehended within a week and transferred to Rostov-on-Don under the jurisdiction of the regional military police department of the Southern Military District.
