Russian Forces Launch Assault on Avdiivka in Ukraine, Forcing Refugees to Seek Safety in Nordic Countries

Russia has attempted to⁣ break through ⁤Ukraine’s eastern defenses before the arrival of winter, resulting in significant losses during the 92nd week of the ⁤war.

Between November 22 and 24, Russia ⁤launched what⁢ Ukraine claimed to be ⁤the third⁢ major assault ⁣on Avdiivka in two months, with approximately 50 attacks supported by armored vehicles. In a single day,‍ Ukraine’s military reported “eliminating” 1,100 Russian ‍soldiers and 30 tanks.

“There is an average of eight to 16 ⁢to 18 air attacks‌ per day. Sometimes 30. We don’t have time to‌ count them,” said Vitaliy⁢ Barabash, head of Avdiivka’s military administration, in an interview with Channel 24 television.

According to Ukraine’s deputy defense ‍minister Oleksandr Pavlyuk, Russian fatalities ⁣reached⁤ nearly 1,000 per⁢ day, totaling 6,260 for the week of November 20-26. He also stated that 78 enemy tanks and 113 armored ‍combat vehicles were destroyed in the intense fighting.

Ukraine estimates that over 325,000 Russian soldiers have‍ died in the war.

“The ⁣Russians are tolerant of⁣ human⁢ losses… on the other‍ hand, this⁣ tolerance is rooted in a sense of fighting a just war,”‍ said Konstantinos Grivas, a professor of geopolitics and weapons systems at⁣ the Hellenic Army Academy,‌ in an interview with Al Jazeera.
