OpenAI has introduced SearchGPT, a new AI-powered online search engine designed to compete with Google, Microsoft Bing, and Perplexity for specific search tasks.
However, there are concerns about potential plagiarism issues with AI-powered search engines. These platforms have been accused of scraping content from the web in real-time, leading to unintentional or intentional plagiarism.
Alon Yamin, CEO of Copyleaks, an AI-enabled plagiarism detection platform, explains that generative AI engines can produce content that closely resembles existing material due to being trained on pre-existing content.
“The concept of ‘unintentional plagiarism’ creates a gray area that poses challenges for both content creators and search engines,” Yamin stated.
SearchGPT is based on OpenAI’s genAI-powered ChatGPT chatbot and offers real-time access to sports scores, stock information, and news. Users can ask follow-up questions within the same window and receive answers based on the context of previous interactions.
The AI-driven web crawler is praised for its ability to handle questions in a conversational manner while providing up-to-date information in a natural way.
