Qatar’s prime minister reported positive developments from a recent meeting between intelligence officials from Egypt, Israel, and the United States. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss a potential truce in the Israel-Hamas war and the release of captives held by Palestinian groups in Gaza.
The spy chiefs from the three countries, who have been at the forefront of negotiations since the war began on October 7, convened in Paris over the weekend to explore the possibility of a phased truce. This truce would prioritize the release of women and children and the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, according to Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al Thani.
During an event in Washington, DC, the prime minister expressed hope that Hamas would respond positively to the proposal and engage constructively in the negotiation process. He also revealed that Hamas had initially demanded a permanent ceasefire as a condition for negotiations, but there has been progress towards a potential permanent ceasefire in the future.
