TikTok is reportedly considering implementing an ad-free subscription model to increase profitability. This approach is not new in the realm of social media platforms. Snapchat has introduced Snapchat+ and X (formerly known as Twitter) has introduced Premium options. However, this would be a new subscription offering specifically for TikTok.
Android Authority initially discovered hints of TikTok’s subscription plans. The latest version of TikTok contains new lines of code that suggest the app is testing a monthly subscription plan without ads. Android Authority found a screen that presents users with two options. The first is the standard option, which remains free and includes personalized ads based on user activity. The second option is the ”Ad-free” option, which costs $4.99 per month.
