Pokemon Fan Creates Concept for Their Ideal Sinnoh Remakes

It’s safe to say that many fans of the original Generation 4 Pokemon games were left feeling dissatisfied with the Sinnoh remakes that were released near the end of 2021, which has only led to many fans of the series discussing how Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl could’ve been made far more interesting with the addition of certain features. Crafting the perfect remake is generally a challenging task for developers, but many Pokemon fans feel that the Generation 4 remakes were a little too similar to the originals.

As many in the Pokemon community will know, the original Pokemon Diamond and Pearl along with Pokemon Platinum are games close to the hearts of many Trainers in the world, even being the first Pokemon games for a lot of veteran players. With that in mind, it’s fair to say that adhering to the original nostalgic values while also introducing new gameplay features and story elements is a near-impossible task to get right, and such remakes rarely appeal to all fans. While the Pokemon franchise itself is no stranger to remakes and is often praised for what was achieved in Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby, the more recent Sinnoh remakes, unfortunately, didn’t go down so well with the community due to a lack of intriguing new additions, which neglected the past decade of the series’ gameplay innovations.

As always, fans stepped up to suggest how the ideal Sinnoh experience could be crafted with the addition of a few ingredients seen in many other titles throughout the franchise. One fan named Choice_Program_2846 on Reddit posted an image that detailed how the remakes could’ve been made perfect with the introduction of Sinnohan forms, the inclusion of content seen exclusively in Pokemon Platinum, and the return of features such as Mega Evolution and the Battle Frontier. These are only a few of the key suggestions made by the player, as the list also includes no end of features seen in more recent games that were lacking in the Gen 4 remakes. Some players also feel that Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl should’ve been made using full 3D graphics similar to what is seen in the most modern titles.

Of course, the much more popular Pokemon Legends: Arceus gave far more depth to the Sinnoh region and ticked off things on fans’ wishlists. Including the introduction of true, open-world gameplay, new regional exclusive Pokemon, and even new forms for certain Legendary Pokemon, Pokemon Legends: Arceus allowed fans to experience Sinnoh in a whole new way – even if it wasn’t a remake.

Playing the original Sinnoh region entries in the Pokemon franchise, Diamond and Pearl, has been a fond memory for many fans of the longrunning series for years. However, some of those same fans have been unimpressed with some of the more recent mainline games such as Sword and Shield. To address this, one fan has recently proposed and detailed a concept for a remake of the beloved Sinnoh region that incorporates the best of the original game and modernizes the elements of the game to bring out its potential in a new generation of Pokemon fans.

The fan by the name of Jonathan Lewis has crafted an impressive proposal for a complete remake of the Sinnoh region’s Diamond and Pearl entries in the franchise. Lewis’ proposal features a redesigned Sinnoh region with modern graphics, quality of life improvements, such as an enhanced user interface and better transportation options, as well as meaningful updates to the gameplay experience.

Many ideas, according to Lewis, were taken from various fan-made concepts floating around the fandom. These include a greater emphasis on character customization, the incorporation of modern Wi-Fi battles, quality-of-life updates such as egg hatching and improved storage solutions, and unique story material inspired by the region’s myths and legends.

In its current state, the project proposal remains only conceptual in nature. Whether or not it will become a reality is yet to be seen, as it all depends on the will of the series creator, Game Freak, and its parent company Nintendo. It is certain, however, that the pitch resonates strongly with many fans of the old Sinnoh region games and has stirred considerable excitement and anticipation for what a potential remake could bring.

In the meantime, fans will have to make do with the current generation’s offerings as well as the virtual console versions of the older games. However, if Jonathan Lewis’ proposed remake ever sees the light of day, it promises to be an exciting way to experience the beloved Sinnoh region anew.
