According to officials, a tragic incident occurred in Nigeria’s northern city of Zaria, in Kaduna state, where a part of a mosque collapsed during afternoon prayers, resulting in the death of seven worshippers and several others being injured.
The Zaria Emirate Council spokesman, Abdullahi Kwarbai, stated that the collapse happened while hundreds of faithful were observing their prayers at the central mosque in the city.
“Initially, four bodies were discovered, and later, three more were found after the rescue team conducted a search of the collapsed mosque,” he explained.
State authorities have revealed that the mosque was built in the 1830s.
The state Emergency Management Agency reported that twenty-three individuals were transported to the hospital for treatment.
Videos captured at the scene depict a wide opening where a section of the roof caved in.
