At the annual summit of the 120-member bloc, leaders of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) countries strongly condemned Israel’s military campaign in the Gaza Strip and called for an immediate ceasefire.
During his speech to delegates, Cuba’s vice president, Salvador Valdes Mesa, described the military campaign as one of the cruelest genocidal acts in history.
He questioned the justification of the murder of women and children in Gaza, the indiscriminate bombings of hospitals and schools, and the deprivation of access to safe water and food.
Moussa Faki Mahamat, chairperson of the African Union Commission, urged an immediate end to what he called the “unjust war against the Palestinian people”.
Nearly half of the 120-member bloc comprises African countries, and the organization is the largest global bloc after the UN. It is also expected to grant membership to South Sudan, the world’s youngest nation, today.
