Toys R Us is planning a bold comeback in the U.S., with the expansion of its brick-and-mortar presence. The company intends to open up to 24 new flagship stores, as well as launch stores at airports and on cruise ships, starting this holiday season.
WHP Global, the parent company of the toy retailer, announced the “Air, Land and Sea” expansion on Friday. Toys R Us, in partnership with Go! Retail Group, aims to open the flagship stores in prime cities that complement its current retail footprint.
The first airport store is scheduled to open in November at Terminal A of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, the world’s second-busiest airport, just in time for the holiday season.
“The Toys R Us brand is experiencing rapid growth, and our expansion into air, land, and sea is a testament to the strength of the brand,” said Yehuda Shmidman, chairman and CEO of WHP, in a statement.
