The use of Artificial Intelligence in music production is already widespread, but a recent survey conducted in France and Germany revealed that 71 percent of respondents fear that it could jeopardize their livelihoods. The study, published by the French Society of Authors, Composers and Music Publishers (Sacem) and the German equivalent GEMA, surveyed over 15,000 individuals in the music industry, highlighting concerns about the impact of AI on their future earnings.
According to the survey, 35 percent of respondents are already utilizing AI in various aspects of music creation. However, the report also predicts a 27 percent decline in incomes by 2028, amounting to approximately 2.7 billion euros ($2.9 billion). This has prompted 95 percent of respondents to call for more transparency from AI developers and greater attention from policymakers on AI and copyright-related challenges.
Cecile Rap-Veber, the managing director of Sacem, emphasized the need to make AI activity ”virtuous” rather than slowing it down. She stated that efforts are underway to collaborate with industry players to implement technical solutions for identifying content generated by AI.
