MoistCr1tikal Music Video Costs Him Sponsorship

MoistCr1tikal Music Video Costs Him Sponsorship

One of Twitch‘s biggest streamers and YouTube personalities Charles ‘MoistCr1TiKal’ White, also known by his moniker of “penguinz0”, has released a video announcing the loss of a sponsorship following the release of his latest music video. While MoistCr1tikal is more known for his eSports team Moist Esports and his commentary on controversies and gaming stories, he has dabbled in the music industry, releasing several classic tracks such as “2019 Guy” and “Your Boyfriend Doesn’t Scare Me”.

When MoistCr1tikal is not launching well-deserved critiques at known figures and companies alike, he can be found on Twitch as he plays through popular games while delivering his own take on overall mechanics and how well the games operate. Unfortunately this time around, it appears his two hobbies have crossed wires, leading one of his most-recent music tracks to cause a disturbance with one of his potential partnerships.

In one of his latest videos on YouTube, MoistCr1tikal announced that the problematic track was “Filthy,” a song depicting numerous lyrics with sexual — and, at times, obscene — references along with marijuana usage. By his own admission, the song’s purpose was to be as disturbing and dirty as possible, hence the title of the track. It’s not aberrant for Twitch and YouTube personalities to receive major sponsorship deals from companies looking to capitalize on the momentum of internet celebrities, but unfortunately for MoistCr1tikal a deal that was previously agreed upon has now fallen apart, leading him to become visibly confused on the matter.

“I don’t see why [this video] all of a sudden somehow besmirches any companies that might want to work with me in the future,” stated MoistCr1tikal in the video posted to YouTube. He makes a good point that his humor is already wide-spread and known around the web, and that his musical aspirations should never conflict with his commentaries and silly videos. MoistCr1tikal is one of the most outspoken figures when it comes to criticizing and tearing down Twitch policies and features which take advantage of their users, but his venture into music is also a part of his main YouTube channel. “I just don’t ever really understand this rationale of ‘because this person gets a little explicit and vulgar in some videos that they’re all of a sudden a brand risk.'”

Video content producers have long been leveraging their platforms to attract lucrative sponsorships and partnerships, but YouTube star MoistCr1tikal recently learned that his video content comes with a price—literally.

After featuring an unlicensed Rihanna song in a popular video, the artist and her record label issued a cease-and-desist order demanding that MoistCr1tikal take down the content, as well as pay a hefty fine. The fine threatened to not only put a drain on MoistCr1tikal’s finances but his reputation as well, causing him to lose out on a lucrative sponsored advertising deal.

The situation has since become a cautionary tale for content creators looking to leverage social media for financial gain. It serves as a reminder of the importance of copyright law and the risks associated with disregarding copyright laws when creating video content. Even content creators with the best intentions may quickly find themselves in a legal gray area and forced to pay hefty fines if they neglect the laws surrounding their videos.

In addition to seeking out licensing agreements with rights holders, content creators must also take steps to ensure that the use of copyrighted material falls in line with fair use laws. Content creators should also be mindful of the guidelines put forth by platforms like YouTube, which put parameters on the use of copyrighted material in videos.

Above all, content creators must remain vigilant and stay informed on the ever-evolving landscape of copyright and fair use laws to ensure that they remain compliant with their content creation and do not wind up facing hefty fines. MoistCr1tikal’s costly mistake serves as an important reminder for content creators to stay mindful of the terms and conditions regarding the use of copyrighted material in their videos.
