In recent weeks, there has been a resurgence of interest in cyberpunk due to the excitement surrounding Cyberpunk 2077 and its story expansion, Phantom Liberty. It appears that there are numerous avenues for those who wish to explore the universe further, not just through games.
For instance, last year saw the release of an anime called “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners,” which gained widespread acclaim. This anime was developed by Studio Trigger in collaboration with CD Projekt RED. It seems that these two companies are working together on another project, although details are currently scarce.
During a recent investor presentation, CD Projekt RED’s commercial director, Michał Nowakowski, was asked about the company’s plans to expand the Cyberpunk franchise beyond games. He mentioned the confirmed live-action adaptation being created in collaboration with Anonymous Content and hinted at other similar projects in development that cannot be officially announced yet.
Yes, we have plans. That’s why we started working with Anonymous Content. We want something to happen. A lot is happening, a lot is being planned. We agreed with Trigger back in 2018, but “Edgerunners” only started in 2022, so for several years we didn’t talk about it because it wasn’t ready. There are plans that we prefer to keep quiet until there is something to talk about, until there is really something to discuss, some specific announcement. When the time comes, we will tell you. I know I’m repeating myself, but yes, the overall direction is to go this way, it is strategically important for us.
Meanwhile, CD Projekt’s chief creative officer, Adam Badowski, emphasized that the company adheres to the official announcement rules set by their partners, including Studio Trigger.
It is also important that Trigger, our partner, has certain rules for announcing projects, and we must comply with them.
