In early 2021, Night School was seeking a partnership. The studio’s first game, Oxenfree, was a success in 2016, followed by Afterparty in 2019 and Next Stop Nowhere in 2020, an exclusive for Apple Arcade. By 2021, co-founders Sean Krankel and Adam Hines had secured deals with major players in the industry such as Xbox, PlayStation, Valve, Nintendo, and Apple. Night School had gained recognition as an acclaimed indie team.
“We were actually in talks with Netflix to bring some of our existing games over,” said Night School co-founder Sean Krankel during Summer Game Fest. He was joined by co-founder Adam Hines and lead developer Bryant Cannon at a small table behind the demo hall.
Krankel assured that Night School was not at risk of collapsing or laying off staff in 2021. With around 20 employees, they were still dealing with the impact of the pandemic and were interested in establishing stability at the studio. Perhaps they would even find…
