Take-Two and Gearbox Software celebrated the success of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, despite the absence of a major DLC release following its launch. Instead, the game received a series of smaller add-ons. Recently, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford revealed the reason behind this decision.
The explanation was straightforward – the focus had shifted to the development of the unannounced Borderlands 4 during that period.
Regrettably, we couldn’t dedicate resources to a significant campaign DLC[for[forTiny Tina’s Wonderlands]. Our attention was divided as we worked on Borderlands 4. I apologize for not disclosing this earlier, but that’s the nature of the industry.
Wonderlands was far from a failure. I wish we could have pursued a major campaign DLC, but balancing that with the demands of Borderlands 4 was challenging. I regret not being able to share this information sooner, but that’s how things unfolded.

Hints about a new Borderlands game surfaced in May 2021, approximately a year before Wonderlands hit the market. It appears that development on the fourth installment had already commenced by then.
Pitchford also refuted claims that Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands was a disappointment, asserting that the game was anything but a failure.
The fantasy adventure led by Tiny Tina launched in March 2025 and garnered decent reviews from critics. However, user reception was lukewarm due to issues like lackluster enemy AI and optimization. StopGame.ru rated the game as “Average.”
Regarding the fourth installment of Borderlands, it was unveiled at gamescom 2024 with a planned release in 2025 on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. Additionally, a digital adaptation of Borderlands has already been released.
