French football star Kylian Mbappe has reportedly informed Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) that he will not be renewing his contract with the Ligue 1 champions when it expires next year, according to French sports newspaper L’Equipe and various international media outlets.
Reports on Monday revealed that Mbappe shocked the PSG hierarchy by declining the option of a 12-month extension on his contract, which he communicated through a formal letter. This news comes after Lionel Messi recently announced his departure from PSG to join Major League Soccer (MLS) side Inter Miami in the United States.
PSG now faces a decision on whether to sell the 24-year-old forward, who scored a hat-trick for France during their defeat by Argentina in the 2022 World Cup final, or allow him to leave the club for free when his current deal expires in June 2024, according to news reports.
Earlier reports in France had suggested that PSG was hopeful of extending Mbappe’s contract.
