Renowned industry insider DanielRPK has revealed that Marvel Studios has made the decision to shelve several upcoming films, including Captain Marvel 3, Ant-Man 4, and Eternals 2. It appears that Disney leadership was disappointed with the underwhelming box office performances of these movies, prompting the studio to shift its focus to more popular heroes.
For instance, Captain Marvel 2 only grossed $206 million against a $220 million budget, while Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania brought in $476 million with a $200 million budget. Eternals, on the other hand, earned $402 million with the same $200 million budget. Despite these numbers, Eternals and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania barely broke even, and Captain Marvel 2 resulted in a loss of over $100 million for Disney.
Many are expressing surprise in the comments, questioning why the studio had initially planned to continue these franchises despite the lackluster reception of their most recent installments.
