Catriona Jackson, Ceo of peak body for Australia’s 39 tertiary institutions ‍Universities Australia is appearing at a public hearing into the federal government’s higher education bill.

She says ‌the body broadly supports the bill, informed from the universities ⁤accord interim report, while ⁢adding ⁤“several aspects” may have “unintended consequences”.

She points to ⁤amendments in the bill requiring providers to give a report to the education⁤ minister,‌ Jason Clare, regarding‍ compliance measures to improve accountability and reporting requirements for higher education providers.

We’re concerned this may conflict with the regulatory obligations and existing processes of the regulator … ⁣and may create undue administrative burden because of that ‌duplication.

In effect, universities must already report to TESQA ‌… the ‌amendments would mean⁢ universities would have to duplicate reporting … to two different agencies⁤ … that ‌would‍ be universities doing⁣ the same thing ‌twice for‌ two different bits of ‌government.

She also adds there is concern the ⁤legislation may ⁢enter into force before universities have ⁤time to implement new measures.

Providers ‍need⁤ time to fully ‍understand their obligations under this new ⁣policy.

Canavan:

Does the contract⁢ to cancel the games … does that provide‌ an indemnity ⁤to ⁣the Victorian ‍government against any future claims‍ from yourself ⁤or the ‍Commonwealth Games Federation?

Phillips:

That’s⁣ a term of the contract, Senator ⁣that we can’t speak to.

Canavan:

Does it contain ⁣a non-disparagement clause? Are you at all prevented from criticising the Victorian ⁢government in any way?

Phillips:
