The Russian operations of A.P. Moller - Maersk, a prominent Danish shipping company, have been spared from liquidation in 2023, as reported by RBC based on financial records from its local subsidiaries.
Maersk managed its activities in Russia through LLC “Maersk Solutions” and LLC “Maersk”, with plans for liquidation initiated in late 2022. However, the parent company intervened and halted the process in 2023.
Recent documents reveal that in February 2024, LLC ”Maersk” received a substantial 20 million rubles injection into its assets. Additionally, lease extensions for offices in Moscow and St. Petersburg were secured for 11 months by “Maersk” and “Maersk Solutions” in November 2023 and January 2024.
News surfaced on May 3 on the “Fedresurs” portal regarding the commencement of LLC “Maersk Solutions” liquidation. Allegedly, the decision to dissolve the company was made on April 10, 2024, by the sole participant of the LLC.
Earlier reports from The Insider indicated Maersk’s decision to cease operations in Russia in March 2022. By August 2022, the company estimated losses of $624 million due to its exit from the Russian market.
Maersk, renowned for its expertise in maritime freight transport and port terminal services, is headquartered in Copenhagen. With subsidiaries and offices spanning across 135 countries and a workforce of approximately 79,000 individuals, Maersk held a significant 18% market share in global container shipping in 2018.
