Maersk’s Bold Decision: Russian Business Saved from Liquidation in 2023

The Russian operations of ‌A.P.‍ Moller -‌ Maersk, a prominent Danish shipping ‌company, have been ⁢spared⁤ from liquidation in ​2023, as reported⁤ by RBC based on ​financial records from its local subsidiaries.

Maersk managed ⁤its activities in Russia through LLC “Maersk Solutions” and LLC “Maersk”, with plans for liquidation initiated in ‍late 2022. However, the⁢ parent company intervened‌ and halted the process in 2023.

Recent ⁣documents reveal​ that ​in February​ 2024, LLC ⁤”Maersk” received a substantial 20 million rubles injection into ⁢its assets. Additionally, ‍lease extensions ​for offices in Moscow and St. Petersburg were secured for‌ 11 months by “Maersk” and “Maersk Solutions” in November 2023 and January ⁤2024.

News surfaced on May 3 on​ the⁢ “Fedresurs” portal regarding the commencement of LLC “Maersk Solutions” liquidation. Allegedly, the decision to dissolve the ⁢company was made on April 10, 2024, ‍by the ⁢sole participant of the ​LLC.

Earlier ⁣reports from The Insider indicated Maersk’s decision to cease operations in Russia in March 2022. By August 2022, the company​ estimated losses⁤ of $624 million due ⁢to its exit from the Russian market.

Maersk,​ renowned for its expertise in maritime freight transport and port terminal services, is headquartered in Copenhagen. With subsidiaries and offices spanning across ​135 countries and ‍a ⁢workforce ​of approximately 79,000 individuals, Maersk​ held a significant 18% market share in global⁤ container shipping in 2018.
