The Astrakhan Regional Court has handed down a three-year forced labor sentence to Sergey Cherepanov, a 26-year-old resident of the area. The verdict was based on evidence presented in the case file and a press release issued by the Investigative Committee’s regional department, which found him guilty of promoting Nazism.
It was revealed during the investigation that in 2021, the defendant established a social media community where he shared content denying the established facts by the International Military Tribunal regarding the prosecution of major war criminals from European Axis countries. This act was deemed as promoting Nazism under part “b” of article 354.1. Additionally, law enforcement discovered images on his page that displayed a disrespectful attitude towards Russia’s military glory and the memory of its defenders, constituting a violation under part 4 of article 354.1 of the Criminal Code.
The press release highlighted the collaborative efforts of the FSB, police, and the first department for investigating crucial cases within the Astrakhan region to curb the suspect’s activities.
Sergey Cherepanov was taken into custody in November 2023, pending the finalization of the decision.
