Link’s Nudist Lifestyle Embraced by Hyrule in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s Laundry Day

Developers for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom added lots of clever Easter eggs into the game, similar to how they did in Breath of the Wild, and perhaps one of the funniest for players to come across is seeing what sorts of dialog the NPCs will have when faced with an unclothed Link. Link is never fully naked, but players do have the ability to remove all but his underwear. This leaves him quite vulnerable when faced with enemy attacks or in cold areas, but the tactic is fairly useful in the warmer biomes of the game and for seeing some humorous responses from the friendly NPCs.

While it has not been made clear yet if there are any advantages to being naked, as many felt was the case in BOTW for completing shrines, the comedic value is absolutely present. In Tears of the Kingdom, most of the NPCs will have something to say about Link’s absence of attire, even if it is simply a quick comment. Apparently, for most of Hyrule at least, Link’s hero status gives him the right to be a bit free in his clothing choices, or lack thereof.

One of the many enjoyable discoveries in both BOTW and TOTK is the hidden dialog reactions from NPCs regarding different events or situations. Link’s clothing can sometimes trigger NPC responses, but a lack of clothing will almost always get some form of a comment. Whether an innocuous “Aren’t you cold?” or a more disgusted “You’re in public, you know,” passersby and quest givers alike will absolutely notice. One of the most wholesome is from poor Paya, who had an obvious crush on Link in BOTW and struggles with her feelings about seeing him so exposed even in TOTK.

Just like in the real world, different cultures around Hyrule react differently to seeing Link in his unclothed state. The Gorons, who themselves do not wear much clothing, are proud of Link for embracing his freedom and not being like other Hylians. Meanwhile, the Gerudo have quite the opposite response and are very straightforward in expressing they are offended at seeing Link in his underpants.

The various pieces of armor Link can wear in TOTK are certainly a boon when facing frigid and sweltering climates and enemy attacks, and different sets of armor will generally provide different types and levels of protection. Within the towns though, this isn’t as important, and having Link strip down to his undergarments is sure to give some fun dialog from the NPCs he encounters. It is also interesting to see how different pieces of armor will spark different comments, though this is not as common to experience as when he is unclothed. Players of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom who want a good laugh should try this out and see for themselves what comments they receive.
