A lawsuit seeking class action status has accused DoorDash of charging iPhone users more than Android users for identical deliveries. According to court documents (PDF, via 9to5Mac), screenshots submitted for the case showed that iPhone users are charged an extra fee for “expanded range.” DoorDash’s website stated that the fee “helps DoorDash preserve [customers’] access to the available merchants farthest from [them].” However, the lawsuit alleged that the fee is added to iPhone users’ bills more frequently than Android users’ bills, “likely because studies reveal iPhone users earn more.”
The lawsuit also accused DoorDash of adding the extended range fee to the total of DashPass subscribers as a way “to subsidize lost revenues from discounted fees.” DashPass is DoorDash’s $10-a-month subscription service that delivers orders over $12 for free. Some screenshots in the court documents showed that the extended range fee was only added to the account with DashPass and not to the other account.
