The recruitment in the development studio Hangar 13 continues to reveal interesting details about the next installment of the cult franchise Mafia. It is already known for certain that this team was able to regain the trust of players and the publisher with a successful remake of the first installment, and now they are working on Mafia 4. To do this, the studio has been actively increasing the number of experienced employees since the beginning of the year. This time, they are looking for a Senior 3D Environment Artist.
In a series of posts on professional resources, Hangar 13 studio announced that they are in need of experienced designers and a Senior 3D Environment Artist. They will be working with the cutting-edge graphics engine Unreal Engine on the game landscape and the structure of the open world in a large city.
The descriptions of the job vacancies directly mention the next installment of Mafia. Applicants are asked to contribute to the creation of high-quality environments and locations that are in line with the spirit of the original franchise. The artist’s duties include creating objects in a virtual environment with a focus on organic models using a combination of procedurally generated landscapes and manual sculpting, modeling, texturing, and lighting.
The need for artists of this specialty at Hangar 13 may hint at the main setting of the new Mafia. Future artists will be responsible for the “organic landscape,” which means that in addition to the familiar city, the game will feature fairly large areas with natural scenery. Fans of the series speculate that the events of the new game will likely unfold in 20th century Las Vegas. Some players also do not rule out Sicily – the homeland of many gangsters of that time.
We will be able to find out which city will appear in the next installment of Mafia after the release of the first trailer. The game was officially announced at the end of 2022 in the publisher 2K’s report.
