Following the sudden passing of Lance Reddick at the age of 60, messages of love, admiration, and grief flooded the internet. For Destiny players, the loss of the actor was particularly difficult as he was a cornerstone of their fictional universe. However, Reddick wasn’t just the voice of Zavala in Destiny 2, he was also a big fan and player of the game.
On the Wednesday night before his passing from natural causes, players noticed that Reddick’s Destiny 2 handle, idontcare789#7678, appeared online. His last liked tweet was also from a fan joking about Zavala. Reddick had even played through most of the new Lightfall campaign, with only the final boss fight against Calus remaining. His wife, Stephanie Reddick, posted a statement on his Twitter account that directly mentioned Destiny players, saying, “Lance loved you as much as he loved the game.”
Reddick had previously expressed his love for the game and its community. In an interview with Polygon last year, he said, “At the end of the day, I’m just a big fan who also happens to voice one of the characters.”
