During a recent British awards ceremony, actor David Tennant, famous for his roles in ”Doctor Who” and “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” boldly criticized those who oppose transgender rights.
Specifically, he called out British Minister for Equalities Kemi Badenoch, who has been pushing to restrict transgender individuals from using facilities and participating in sports teams based on their gender identity:
These individuals are a group of complainers who are on the wrong side of history and will soon fade away. It’s time to wake up, and Kemi Badenoch’s views should not be tolerated. I don’t wish her harm, I just want her to be silent.
Author J.K. Rowling responded to Tennant’s remarks:
These individuals can only be described as the gender Taliban. They act as if they are part of a privileged group with special privileges.
This person claims to promote compassion and tolerance, yet wishes for those with differing opinions to cease to exist.
It seems that Rowling has become immune to threats and no longer fears backlash from aggressive members of the LGBT community.
David Tennant is now the fifth Harry Potter actor to clash with Rowling over transgender rights, joining Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, and Eddie Redmayne. However, there are also actors who have supported Rowling on this issue, such as Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Helena Bonham Carter, Evanna Lynch, Harry Melling, Tom Felton, and the late Robbie Coltrane.
