James Cameron, the director of “Avatar 3,” has addressed the rumors surrounding a nine-hour version of the film supposedly planned for release on Disney Plus after its theatrical debut.
Cameron clarified that his words were misinterpreted, stating, ”There is no nine-hour rough cut! If I ever… I would put a shotgun in my mouth if I ever made a nine-hour version of the film.” He explained that the nine-hour material was intended for three films – “Avatar 3,” ”Avatar 4,” and “Avatar 5,” resulting in a three-hour duration for each film.
He humorously added, “Somehow it turned into a nine-hour version of one film… Can you imagine? He would shoot me,” pointing to producer Jon Landau.
“Avatar: The Way of Water” has a duration of three hours and 12 minutes, following years of production that began in 2017. The film premiered in December 2022, 13 years after the original release.
